A security guard on the “NCIS” set was killed Wednesday when he was struck by a passenger van.
Julio Garcia, a 52-year-old resident of Reseda, was hit at 10:10 a.m. at the show’s production base camp in Santa Clarita. He was immediately taken to Henry Mayo Hospital where he died a short time later from his injuries.
According to a Santa Clarita sheriff, the driver of the van had some sort of medical emergency and accidentally veered into the base camp, where he struck Garcia.
Production on the show, which is the Eye’s top drama in total viewers, was immediately suspended.
The network and CBS TV Studios issued the following statement: “Everyone at the network, the studio and ‘NCIS’ is devastated by the news. Our hearts grieve for his family and friends for this tragic loss. We are, of course, cooperating with the local authorities in Santa Clarita to help determine what caused this terrible accident.”
From the show’s producers, cast and crew: “With profound sympathy we mourn the tragic passing of our co-worker and friend. ‘NCIS’ is a family, and, as with any family, we are deeply saddened by this unexpected loss. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his loved ones.”
